A veneer is a thin layer of porcelain made to fit over the front of the tooth, similar to a false nail.
When are veneers used?
Veneers have many uses in cosmetic dentistry. They are used to cover chipped teeth, close small gaps or sometimes if a tooth is out of position a veneer can be fitted over the fron of the tooth to bring it back into line. Similarly veneers can be used to cover a singel discoloured tooth or just to lighten the upper front teeth.
Why not a crown?
Veneers return teeth to their natural, healthy appearance. Unlike crowns, veneers are very thin and so require very little enamel removal during preparation, resulting in less destruction to the underlying tooth.
What does it involve?
A veneer will take a minimum of two visits. The first visit will be to agree the shade and to prepare the tooth. On the second visit you will be shown your veneer on your tooth before it is fixed permanently with a special adhesive.
