Sedation

If you suffer from high dental anxiety we will gently help overcome your fears with the use of techniques such as dental sedation.

Sedation

We offer sedation for nervous or anxious patients. This helps overcome three main patient worries – fear of the unknown, loss of control and negative past experiences.

The sedation is administered by introducing a tranquilising drug into the blood stream which enables highly anxious patients to cope with dental treatment. Most people feel very relaxed and happy and afterwards and will experience either partial or full memory loss. It is this memory loss is the probably the most valued part of the sedation for the patient.

Safety Issues with Dental Sedation

Patients will be medically conscious throughout, so the potential dangers of general anaesthetic are greatly avoided. Your sedation will be carried out by Mr Crutchley who has extensive experience in this area and is a member of SAAD (Society for Advancement of Anaesthesia in Dentistry).

Sedation Assessment and Appointment

As this service is currently delivered by only one dentist at Downe in the Mouth, patients wishing to avail of sedation require an initial assessment and only then at the discretion of the dentist can an appointment be made for sedation.
