Historic Places of Interest

Downpatrick is home to Down County Museum, Down Cathedral and adjacent to is the final resting place of Saint Patrick, along with Saints Brigid and Colmcille.

Downpatrick and County Down Railway

Located on the outskirts of Downpatrick, this railway is Northern Ireland’s only standard gauge (ie full size) heritage railway. Trains run at weekends and the railway also has ,special theme events for Halloween, Christmas and other holiday times.

Downpatrick Racecourse

Situated one mile from the centre of Downpatrick, the first race meeting was over 300 years ago in 1685.  This friendly racecourse has launched the careers of many top National Hunt heroes including Rhyme n Reason, Tourist Attraction and Sparky Gayle.

For the sailing enthusiast, Quoile Yacht Club boasts the best facilities on Strangford Lough.
